Where do I register for Boston background work?

Boston Casting maintains a large performer database and an extras casting department. Register through its official website and keep your profile current.

Does Boston Casting only cast Boston shoots?

No. It describes itself as the largest casting company in New England, so its projects can be elsewhere in the region. Check the reporting location in each booking.

Is the Massachusetts Film Office a casting agency?

No. It is the state’s film office, focused on attracting and supporting production. Its crew database is for crew and vendors, not extras registration.

Do I need experience or an agent to be an extra in Boston?

Background work generally does not require acting experience, and Boston Casting’s database includes union and non-union performers. Individual projects set their own requirements.

Does Scene Seekers book extras in Boston?

No. Scene Seekers is an independent informational site. We do not cast, hire, or represent performers.

Background acting in Boston

Boston Casting describes more than 30 years of experience casting principal roles, background extras, kids, pets, and even vintage cars for feature films, television series, commercials, and corporate and web video. The women-owned company is a member of the Casting Society of America.

The Massachusetts Film Office promotes the state’s film tax incentive — including a 25% production credit and 25% payroll credit with no annual cap or expiration — and maintains production and crew resources. The state office supports the industry but does not register background performers.

Getting started as a beginner

Register in Boston Casting’s database and keep your photos, sizes, and contact information current.
Watch the company’s official site and channels for casting notices rather than relying on reposts in community groups.
Remember that the state film office’s crew database is aimed at crew and vendors, not background-performer registration.

Practical local considerations

Boston Casting serves all of New England, so a booking through a Boston company may report outside the city — confirm the location before committing.
Massachusetts productions film statewide, from Boston neighborhoods to coastal towns. A state-level notice is not necessarily a Boston shoot.
The state tax credit attracts productions, but incentive policy is context for the market, not a promise of background work.
