SCENE SEEKERS

Your First Scene

Become an Extra

Discover how everyday people get started as movie and television extras — no fame required.

What it means to be an extra

Extras, also called background performers, help make on-screen worlds believable. You might be a commuter in a train station, a guest at a wedding, or a fan in a stadium. Most background roles don't involve dialogue.

Who can do it

Many productions look for people of all ages, backgrounds, and appearances. Experience is often not required for background work, though every production sets its own requirements.

How to prepare

  • Take simple, recent photos in natural light.
  • Know your measurements and clothing sizes.
  • Be honest about your availability and transportation.
  • Learn basic set etiquette before your first booking.

Keep expectations grounded

Applying doesn't guarantee selection. Productions choose people based on what each scene needs, which is often outside anyone's control. Treat every booking as a bonus and enjoy the process of learning.
